The basis for the teaching of English is developing students' everyday communication skills. Students study a range of modern and traditional literature, including Shakespearean, Asian and Australian literature, a variety of films, non fiction and visual literacy texts.
The English classroom 7 to 12 is a place where students are able to air their ideas and concerns in a compassionate, considerate environment. Individuality and the development of communication skills are the focus of each lesson.
In years 11 to 12 we offer a full range of courses from English Studies (non ATAR course) to Extension 2 English. Students at Springwood High School in years 11 to 12 English are encouraged to achieve their academic, social and leadership potential in their pursuit of the HSC.
In response to the Government's DER, the English faculty has embraced the use of Laptop Computer Technology and the internet with the intention of enriching the experience of students in the area of interactive and online education. Teachers in the faculty use the resources available to them via the World Wide Web and specific software applications such as One Note, to help prepare students for a future that relies heavily on this form of new communication.
